The 1999 Brood War Season 1 Ladder Tournament started on April 7th, 1999 and consisted of the 16 top-ranked players on the official ladder. Two replacements were made due to players not being able to participate at the event. The tournament was one of the earliest Brood War tournaments recorded and officially held by Blizzard.

The top eight finishers of the present tournament would join their top eight counterparts from the 1999 Brood War Season 2 Ladder Tournament to compete in the 1999 Brood War Tournament World Championships.
